I am not an expert by any means, but I can tell you that this little camcorder is an excellent buy for the person that just wants to point and shoot with no problems. It's compact size makes it ideal for stuffing in your pocket and it is pretty durable. The quality of the video is good . The camera should come with more extensive directions for downloading the video onto a Mac. I found it confusing and difficult to do...at first. Eventually I figured it out. It seems to take a very long time to upload to Youtube, but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I don't need a zoom any stronger than the one it has, but maybe a more experienced photog. would find this a problem.
I never took videos before (although I bought several cameras) because they were all too bulky and involved too many things to make a video. With this Vado you don't have to format anything, load anything or rewind anything. Just aim and have fun.
Great little gadget.

Received camera and it seemed ok. Tried to use their software 3 weeks later and it was a disaster. The Vado software did not load. The Microsoft Movie software wouldn't work since it said the camera was not turned on (it was). Went to their website and got quick responses (within 24hrs) but it was superficial help. They eventually told me to use another computer. This was after several days of back and forth messages. Tried my sons and it didn't work, Tried my wife's and the software turned on but it was in giant pixels and then it said it had a defective driver. I contacted Amazon to return it but they told me I had to go through the company they sent it through. Amazon wouldn't accept any return. My suggestion, is to only purchase this if you're a highly skilled technical computer geek.

Creative definitely created a gem. It's perfect for basic high quality recording. The software that comes with it is OK for most purposes. If you need some fancy editing done and then compress the video, I'd recommend Vegas Pro 9 (I know it's an overkill for most folks)or Mpeg Video Wizard. I used it a few times to join the clips, add fancy transitions and convert the video to Mpeg 2. From Mprg 2, you can convert the video to xvid, etc with any free video encoder.

The Vado HD is a fairly competent, decent, flash-based camcorder. Though "HD" (720P resolution) the image quality is merely adequate. You won't be filming movies on this device. It has terrific battery life and is easy to use, but lacks the bells and whistles of some direct competitors. I mostly use this camcorder to capture videos of the kids around the house, let them use it for projects, etc...
For the price, it's hard to complain.
